I do not believe anyone reads this but I am going to attempt to update it anyway. Do you read this? Are you a real and not-invisible person? If so, feel free to write to me at info(at)casitanido.com.

Last year I bought a little mail project from MyMy. It's called etc etc and it's neato! You get a little packet of bits and pieces in the mail. You make something with the bits and pieces and then send a picture of the something you made back. Because it's been such a busy year, I procrastinated doing the etc etc project until today!! I am hoping the girl from MyMy is at the Philly Zine Fest today so I can finally give her my finished project. It's not my best work but it's finished! I'm not exactly sure how to add a picture of it here so I'll put in the portfolio section if you want to look at it.
oh, and p.s.

also because i am busy and not at all lazy, i don't know when i will ever update my portfolio with actual (not embarrassing) things i made that i like or, for that matter, update my etsy shop either. maybe i will never do it and the fact that i haven't done it will continue to nag at my brain and conscience forever, while i attend to things like working on a masters degree and opening a business.
I'm not lazy, I'm busy

So this is the same exact entry I just posted on MySpace:
My foot is still broken and will be confined to a six-pound bootcast from hell for another four weeks but this doesn't mean that Mew Gallery will have to suffer from my loss of normal left foot usage! We are moving along really fast! Shout outs and thank yous to all the folks who help us out and, also, to those of you who are my business partner or fluffy haired contractor guy and slave away on your hands and knees staining the floor or climbing on ladders doing acrobatics to get the stupid ceiling done while i sit around and complain about my fractured metatarsal bone. shout out to you too! word.
So we're getting super close to the finish line here. Will we really have a soft opening at the end of this month and a grand opening celebration on the weekend of october 7th? is it true that we are planning an exhibit featuring the artwork of not so starving artists because they all work at the whole foods on south street, with the help of brett t. mapp, who knows everyone in the entire city of philadelphia, and that the opening is sort of scheduled for october 8th? we don't know for sure yet, but just in case, pencil it all in to your calendars.
And if you make stuff and want to consign it and haven't contacted us yet, what the heck are you waiting for??? Mew Gallery has tons of space for wonderful, creative, handmade inventory. drop us a line!

Broken Feet and collar bones
Mon, Sep 4, 06 - 10:19:26 PM
So last Sunday I was at Mew Gallery all alone. I was papering the ceiling because we can't afford to have it taped and spackled. Way up high on a ladder, I felt dizzy, heard a weird noise; thought it was a ghost (because really, I am 10, not 10 days away from 29), and somehow found myself on the floor with a toppled over ladder. It was quite a fall. I called my friend Nikki because she is conveniently located 2 blocks away from Mew. She came right over and, even though she hates hospitals, got her 9 months pregnant friend to drive us to the emergency room. Nikki waited with me there until Tony showed up. Props to Nikki cuz I know that wasn't easy for her.
Tony has had his fair share of hospitals lately. He fell off his bike a few weeks ago and broke his collar bone. When I fell off the ladder, he had just been recooperating from his collar bone surgery for a few days.
I was diagnosed with a fracture in the fifth metatarsal bone. I left the hospital (after being there for a good 6 hours) with crutches, a temporary splint, two ace bandages, and a boy in a sling. We took a cab home in the rain.
I was out of commission for an entire week, hobbling about my apartment with crutches and feeling miserable. Luckily, Tony was also house bound. So the two of us watched incredible amounts of t.v. (i LOVE you TIVO!!!). My favorites were the two episodes of "Mystery" we tivo'd from PBS. Inspector Morse rocks.
I now have a 6 pound boot/cast on my leg and foot. It's crazily gigantic. I can walk in it without crutches (realllly slowly). So I'm back in action. I have to sleep with it though. I am not allowed to take it off except for showers. It's only been 3 1/2 days of my 6 week boot sentence and my foot is already feeling claustrophobic.
So, that's that. After my broken foot vacation, I am going back to both shop renovations and school tomorrow. The (broken) busy bee is back.
One more update!

I forgot to mention that Adam is working on uploading some more stuff into my portfolio section. I think it will be done or at least sort of done this week. Check back once in a while if you can!
Much Needed Update!
Mon, Aug 14, 06 - 10:03:51 PM
I don't have much time to update the journal here, these days. There's just so much going on! I hope to get on a schedule where I am on here once or twice a week with new news. Please be patient and keep checking back :)
So, here's what's going on with me lately:
My Trompe L'oeil glasses tee was on the front page of Etsy today! That's the second Portauovo tee featured on Etsy's front page this summer! weeee! Also, I've had quite a few etsy people purchase the "Clothes I Want" Zine in my shop. Thanks!! I also made some new jewelry which I will, hopefully, be posting for sale this week.
We've been moving along with construction at Mew Gallery. The walls are being repaired right now. Once that's done we'll get to painting, re-doing the floors, and installing our fun lighting (we've been re-designing old chandeliers and they look great so far!). We are hoping to open on September 9th, though that may be a fantasy. Even so, we are determined to open at some point in September and have started collecting inventory from our consignees. Philadelphia is chock full of talented artists, crafters, and designers and we are so lucky to be working with so many of you!! Thanks to all of our consignees for the patience and support!!
Well, that's about it for now. School starts full time again at the end of August. I may never sleep again once that happens! Better go catch some zzzz's right now, while I still can! <3 Lauren

Links
Thu, Jun 15, 06 - 08:52:50 PM
I updated my links. They don't all fit on the page!! Hopefully Adam can fix that.
Anyway, once it's all set- click around. There's a ton of great, inspiring stuff. And if you're my friend, send me your url and I'll add you to my friends area. I have a few of you on there now but can't remember everyone's websites.
Things are moving along really fast!
Thu, Jun 15, 06 - 08:00:01 PM
So it's been a couple of weeks since I last posted I guess. We were approved for the loan and are waiting for the final paperwork to go through. We're planning to sign the lease on the space in the next couple of days. Once all that stuff is done, we'll be in there renovating the store. I was there on Tuesday, meeting with the ADT guy for our alarm system. It's a bigger mess than I remember, but still an awesome space with wonderful potential. We couldn't ask for a better location. I'm just anxious to get in there already!! While I'm waiting, and not in school for the summer, I am slowly getting stuff on my Etsy page. The shop button on this site is now a direct link to casitanido.etsy.com. Check it out! I put the old products on sale and added a few new pieces. I've started making fun jewelry. My favorite is the "toothlace", although no one has bought it yet. I may just keep it for myself. Okay that's enough babbling. Is anyone even reading this? If so, write me an email! <3 Lauren
YAY!!!
Fri, Jun 2, 06 - 07:09:04 PM
We were approved for our business loan today!!! That means Mew Gallery will be up and running in the next couple of months. If anyone is interested in consigning with us- we're looking for artists right now. just email me and i'll send you a consignment form. yay!! oh, and, next week (or so) i'll be updating my etsy account. all old stock will be put on sale and new items will be listed. keep an eye on www.casitanido.etsy.com. I'll post when that's running too.
YIPPPEEEE!!!
bye Etsy :(
Thu, May 11, 06 - 09:19:56 PM
I have been planning to update my etsy site because it's been long ignored by yours truly. I wanted to update it tonight but didn't have time. When I went to check it, everything was deleted!! I guess I ignored Etsy too long and my time limit ran out. BOOO!! Anyway, that gives me a chance to start from scratch. Hopefully, by next week, I should have my old stuff back on Etsy and on sale, along with some new stuff. My store on this main site will probably take a while to set up so I'll need to use the Etsy site in the time being. If you want to see an outdated bio and an empty page check out www.casitanido.etsy.com now. Or just wait a week or two and I'll have it all up and running again.
Today's stuff
Tue, May 9, 06 - 07:19:57 PM
Okay, so, the site is officially up and running. Still needs some tweaking but it's here! Thanks Adam!!
So since this is a journal, i'll tell ya'll about my day.
Today Carolynne and I handed in our final business plan at the Women's Business Development Center. We've been working on it for months. The financial part was re-done about half a million times, but it seems to be working out now. We want to get in to talk to a banker about some funding within the next couple of weeks. Wish us luck, internet. If we don't get a loan then we're gonna run the whole store from credit cards. aaaagh!!
Last night we went to the Bella Vista Civic Association "Spring Fling". Brett, the president of the organization invited us. It was nice. We met a bunch of our future neighbors. They're excited about the store. i really hope it all works out.
Please be a website soon, Casita Nido

My friend Adam is making my website. Adam is a busy boy so my website isn't on the internet yet. When it is, I will be super psyched!! Adam rocks! So does his mysterious partner that is making the shop part of the website, I think.
